Wesley Frierson

Wesley Frierson brings joy and intention to every moment in the classroom. As a passionate preschool teacher at Mississippi State University's Child Development and Family Studies Center, he's spent the past five years creating an environment where young learners thrive through play, discovery, and connection.

"I am blessed to have a job that I love and the opportunity to play a small part in future generations' early childhood learning," Frierson said. "One of my main goals is to ensure that the children's first educational experiences are filled with joy, wonder, and a sense of accomplishment, laying a strong foundation for their lifelong learning."

With a deep understanding of child development, Frierson designs learning experiences that support cognitive, social-emotional, physical, gross motor, communication, and artistic growth. His approach is rooted in play-based learning, recognizing that children learn best when they're actively engaged and having fun. He also prioritizes building a diverse and inclusive classroom, where every child feels safe to express themselves and grow at their own pace.

"I believe every child is unique and has their own learning style and pace," he said. "My classroom is built around honoring those differences while fostering strong relationships and independence."

Frierson holds multiple credentials, including a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Preschool Special Needs Credential, Mississippi Teacher's License, Tummy Safe certification, and First Aid/CPR training, ensuring he's well-equipped to provide a safe, nurturing, and enriching classroom.

Being part of the School of Human Sciences has helped him grow both professionally and personally.

"It makes me feel excited and empowered," he said. "I'm surrounded by colleagues with similar goals, always learning, exploring, and shaping my identity in a supportive environment while navigating new challenges each day."

As an MSU alumnus, Frierson takes pride in the larger Mississippi State community—a place he describes as home.

"Being part of MSU evokes a profound sense of belonging," he shared. "There's always something to do in the community, and I'm honored to be part of this Bulldog family."

With a joyful heart and a deep commitment to early learning, Wesley Frierson continues to lay the groundwork for children's success—one playful, meaningful day at a time.
