Bailey Poindexter

Bailey Poindexter believes that education should be a doorway, not a barrier. With a deep commitment to policy, receptiveness, and student support, she focuses on ensuring that all students have the resources they need to thrive.

Poindexter's academic journey has been shaped by her passion for public policy and education. She earned a Bachelor's in History and a Master of Public Policy and Administration and is currently working on her Ph.D. program in Public Policy and Administration, all from Mississippi State University. Her research explores how organizational structures in higher education can be designed to better serve first-generation students, low-income students, and students with disabilities—overcoming barriers that often stand in their way.

"Working closely with student populations in higher education provides insight into the unique challenges they face when pursuing post-secondary education," Poindexter said. "How we use policy to shape our organizations can streamline the way we provide resources to students who may need additional support, and that motivates me to work harder on behalf of our students."

Her role within the School of Human Sciences allows her to collaborate with faculty and students who are actively working to improve lives through education, research, and community engagement.

"I am so fortunate to work with colleagues and students who are engaged in exciting coursework and opportunities," she said.

Beyond campus, Poindexter values the strong sense of community she has found at Mississippi State University and in Starkville.

"Mississippi State and Starkville are such a significant part of my life," she said. "I love being part of communities that are welcoming, supportive, and filled with opportunities for learning and fun!"

Outside of work, Poindexter enjoys cooking, playing in a local mahjong league, and spending time with her family.

With her research and advocacy, Poindexter remains committed to building a more comprehensive higher education system—one where every student has the tools to succeed.
